Mom of two, wife of one, and a woman who also happens to struggle with mental illness.
I experienced my first panic attack at 17 years old. I had absolutely no idea what it was or what had happened. That was a scary feeling! My best friend (to this day) printed out some info from the web that explained what may have happened to me.
I continued to have panic attacks, each more debilitating than the next. I gave up public speaking and performance, including marching band (which was the love of my life and still is). Gradually, it picked away at my life, but I did make efforts to fight it. And fight it, I have. I was born in Southeast Alabama and now I’m on a 3-year post with my family in Canberra, Australia! I am very grateful to have the opportunity to the ability to make such a huge change. I’m lucky I’ve been able to stay at home during this time, so I’m trying to use this as a sort of cocoon period of my life. I have found the best psychiatrist I’ve ever encountered here, so I hope it’ll be a time of healing.
Since those panic attacks 20 years ago, I’ve since grappled with generalized and OCD anxiety, and postpartum psychosis, after which I was diagnosed with ADHD and bipolar disorder. Fun combination, right?
As you can see, I’m lighthearted by nature, and always down-to-earth. I hope you’ll enjoy getting to know me more through this blog. Cheers!
